As the Isle of Man has more than one language, many pieces have more than one
name. Also, there may be arrangements by different people of the same piece, or slightly different variants of the name. This can make searching for some pieces quite tricky, but here are some helpful points. For example, say you are looking for "The Sheep Under the Snow." Firstly, this may sometimes be recorded with "the" and sometimes without. Therefore, in the first instance search for "Sheep Under the Snow" only and the database will automatically pull out anything with or without "the." If you were to enter "The Sheep Under the Snow" the database would not find pieces without the preceding "the". |

When a few results have been studied, you should notice that a number of the pieces
also carry the name "Ny Kirree fo Niaghtey" and variants thereof. Again, if you are too specific with your search then only identical results will be found. So, to find all the alternatives (i.e. Kirree fo Niaghtey, Ny Kirree fo Niaghtey, Kirree fo Sniaghtey etc.) choose one common element and search only for that i.e. "Kirree". You may find some unrelated pieces as well, but all versions of the song should be found if the search is carried out in this way. |

The same goes for the creative persons involved. If you are looking for a copy of
"Ellan Vannin" that was arranged by Townshend, you may wish to search under Townshend in the "Arranger" section. Many
results will appear, most of which will also carry the name of the Lyricist as Eliza Craven Green. To make sure you find as many versions
as possible, including any that were arranged by other people or that do not have the arranger’s name given, also try a search under
Craven Green in the "Words" section.

This idea goes for any search. Your starting point will throw up some results,
but keep an eye out for other possible search options from material within the results which will hopefully help you find more of what
you are looking for.
